why is a specialized group of small cells better than one large cell with the same volume

@StacyGomezJmz I assume by "...one large cell with the same volume" you mean that large cell has the same volume as the sum of smaller cells volume. It is easier to transfer nutrients and the like with the smaller cells. Also, I think you are implying that the large cell is not specialized. Is that correct? If that is so, then the specialized cells can stop performing reactions and metabolic functions that are not directly related to the cells survival and job. A large, non-specialized cell would still perform unnecessary functions, thereby using energy that is wasted.
