I don't know from Texas, but..
Generally, most rural places in the US lost prime workforce in WWI.
Britain, France and Russia were among the combatants.
Americans at home supported their relatives in arms with encouraging letters, financially supporting the war, and not rioting in opposition like some countries. Opposition to recruitment was kept to a minimum by Federal laws against reporting any negative fact because it was unpatriotic.
