What is 0.0314 written in scientific notation?
A. 3.14 × 103 B. 3.14 × 10–2 C. 3.14 × 10–3 D. 3.14 × 102
d right
does the 103 mean 10+3?
if the 102 amd 103=10+2 and 10+3 then 10+2 is right
it's b. 3.14x10^-2
oh ok
every time you have a decimal point the exponent is negative.. cause the number is really small.
ok
in scientific notation the coefficient is between 1 and 10 therefore move the decimal to the right until it is between two numbers which will give a number that is between one and 10. 0.0314 --> 3.14 the exponent of base 10 will be negative if the decimal was moved to the right (another way of looking at this is to notice that in standard notation, 0.0314 is less than 1 and therefore the exponeent is going to be negative) But what should the exponent be? How many places was the decimal point moved? This will determine the magnitude of the exponent. It was moved 2 places so the exponent will be -2: Now can you tell me which you think it would be? :)
b
Correct. Now I will site my source. :) https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110111163222AAojjvS Hope you get an A on your homework!
