Which two options could be the next step in simplifying this expression? 15 + (5 + 21) A.36 + 20 (use the commutative property) B.20 + 36 (use the distributive property) C.20 + 21 (use the associative property) D.15 + 26 (use order of operations)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Order of operations is the correct path in this situation. If you refer to BEDMAS, brackets comes before addition.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Order of Operations. Using the order of operations almost always works in every math problem. An associative property would not work because, well, it wouldn't really make sense in this type of equation. Same with distributive. I would only use that for multiplication. And finally, same with commutative. Switching the numbers in the parenthesis would not make sense, now would it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Follow PEMDAS: Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction. This is the order you follow when solving problems so D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

PENDAS is also know as the Order of Operations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*PEMDAS

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so its d and c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Simply just D.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):
