HELP FAST! Over the course of an alcohol addiction, a user will require increasing amounts of the drug (alcohol) to achieve the same effect. Which one of these options might explain what is happening to the addict at a cellular level? Answer Cells of the liver have increased the amount of smooth ER they have.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cells of the liver have increased the amount of smooth ER they have. The gap junctions between neuron cells have been sealed off. The intermediate filaments of the microvilli cells have become more dynamic. The mitochondria of the addict produce additional ATP when alcohol is imbibed. The lysosomes have geared up and are able to recycle more and do so more efficiently.

@Koikkara

OpenStudy (zale101):

chrome crashed for me, and when i tried coming to the link again, openstudy started lagging.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Silly chrome!..and yeah OS lags a lot

OpenStudy (zale101):

So your answer was increased number of smooth E.R. I'll have to agree on that. Alcohol addicts will indeed increase the levels of Smooth ER in order to remove toxic substances from the poison(drug) entering the cell. Which makes the smooth ER increase in drug tolerance. Therefore, the more drug intake the more smooth ER occurs on cells.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Thank you so much aunt @Zale101 !

OpenStudy (zale101):

No Problem, glad to help :)

OpenStudy (koikkara):
