Ok for this one, you have to find the areas of both the squares and add them together to get the total area. the larger square has an area of side^2 = 45^2 or 45 * 45. Multiplying 45 by 45 gives you 2025, and the area of the smaller is 30 times 30 = 900. 900+2025 gives you 2925 mm^2. The conversion from millimeters to centimeters is\[2925mm \times \frac{ 1meter }{ 1000mm }\times \frac{ 100cm }{ 1meter }\]The reason I did this the "long" way is so that you can see how to convert between the lengths. Anyway, the mm cancel out (that's millimeters), and the meters cancel out, leaving us with centimeters. Now do the math. Multiply 2925 by 100 to get 292500, then divide that by the 1000 in the denominator. This answer, then, in cm is 292.5 cm^2.
