Subtracting polynomials is like subtracting real numbers. To subtract a real number you add the opposite of that number. To subtract polynomials you add the opposite of each term of that polynomial and then simplify.

5x-7y+8z+2x-3y+z =5x+2x-7y-3y+8z+z now add x,y and z terms
