plz help! how did the USA go from successful containment to a failed war in Vietnam?
this is my answer but I feel like i totally hosed it A: After the Japanese occupation ended, the people of Korea began to organize into local independent committees to fill the power vacuum left by the Japanese. The Soviet-administered north encouraged these committees and centralized them under the Soviet Civil Authority. The U.S.-administered south put a stop to these committees and threw their support behind the anti-communist leader Syngman Rhee. As the French began to leave Vietnam, the U.S. sought to apply what they learned from the Korean War to Vietnam And the U.S. became further and further mired in the disastrous campaign. When the U.S. finally left in 1975, troops returned to a demoralized country. By this time, the theory that the U.S. could use its military might to contain communism was seriously in question.
