As you probably already know, you can have a poem that rhymes, or one that doesn't. This is an important decision because with a humerous poem, you want to keep the mood and rhythm very upbeat, so rhyming can help with that.
Your material can be whatever you want as long as it's funny, you could use an existing joke... but personally when reading humerous poems I tend to go for poems that tell a story about something funny.
If it's a humerous poem for children, remember that kids find a lot of things funny that adults wouldn't even notice, so keep it simple.
If you're struggling to find "funny" material, just think of the things you have found amusing in the past, like something someone said that left you in stitches, or something really embarassing that happened to you that other people may have laughed at, and try to expand on that and turn it into a joke or a story. After you have your basic story, try to pace it into a poetic "frame" so it sounds more like a poem than a story. If you are going to make it rhyme, just make the rhythm on each line the same and use a theasaurus to find different words for the ones you originally used, that rhyme appropriately.
All this sounds complicated, but once you do it you'll probably find it's a lot easier than it sounds.

switch out the last word of everyother scentance for a word that righmed with the other one when your dont re read it and ryme whatever didnt sound right at the end its not too hard.
the topic would be about a funny thing that happened to you or think of something like an animal had to go on a journey for something silly or something like that.

Start of with a normal plot...like what a person normally do when he wakes up from bed. As your poem goes, add in a little humour here and there. Make that normal day of the person "different".
