The given equation is that of a circle. The position of the signal source is the center of the circle and the range of the radio signal is the radius of the circle.

OpenStudy (ranga):

If the equation of the circle is: (x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2 then (h,k) is the center and r is the radius.

OpenStudy (ranga):

(x + 6)^2 + (y + 4)^2 = 36 (x - -6)^2 + (y - -4)^2 = 6^2 Center (-6, -4). Radius = 6.

OpenStudy (ranga):

We need to put (x + 6)^2 + (y + 4)^2 = 36 in the standard form (x-h)^2 + (y-k)^2 = r^2. To do that, write +6 as -(-6) and +4 as -(-4). Then h = -6 and k = -4.
