Chairs for an orchestra are positioned in a curved form with the conductor at the center. The front row has 16 chairs, and each successive row has 4 more chairs. Write an explicit rule to describe its pattern. How many chairs are in the 6th row?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your rule should be... y= 16+4x-4 the 16 is the orginal chairs the 4x is the amount of rows (x) times 4 (since four is added) and the -4 is because you don't add 4 to the first row. so... row 1 =16 row 2 = 20 row 3=24 row 4= 28 row 5= 32 and row 6 = 36 Hope this helps
