The box plots show male and female grades in a biology class: two bar graphs shown. The top one is labeled Male. Q1 at 71, median at 76, Q3 at 84, maximum at 98. The bottom bar graph is labeled Female. Minimum at 65, Q1 at 75, median at 88, Q3 at 90, maximum at 98. Which of the following best describes the information about the interquartile ranges? The interquartile ranges are quite close in value. The male interquartile range is not accurate because the first quartile is missing. The interquartile range for females is skewed left due to the high median. The interquartile range for males should be higher because its overall range is higher.

@Embryo plz help...

So the interquartile ranges is found as follows\[IQR=Q_3-Q_1\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can I take a guess...\[Q _{2}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[Q_2\]or in other words, Quartile 2, is the median, what do you mean by guessing that haha, calculate both IQR's and see what happens, calculate it for Males, and then for females and see how close they are

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so for Males we have that\[Q_1=71,Q_3=84\]then calculating the IQR we find that\[IQR=Q_3-Q_1=84-71=13\]now for Females we do the same thing\[Q_1=75,Q_3=90\]so then\[IQR=Q_3-Q_1=90-75=15\]now those IQR are pretty close if you ask me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So its A?

Thank You btw I have to Go :)
