\(\cap\) means intersection. That is where there is an overlap between the sets. \(\cup\) means union. That is everything from either set, just without duplication. If \(O=\{1,2,3\}\) and \(P=\{2,3,4\}\) then: \(O\cup P=\{1,2,3,4\}\) \(O\cap P=\{2,3\}\)
