You and a group of classmates have been stranded on a deserted island. There are 20 of you that survived the plane crash as you were on your way to Hawaii for a spring break trip. You were not able to salvage any supplies, so the only resources you have are those on the island. Your immediate reaction is to find food and shelter. You also realize the need for some form of rules to keep people safe until you can be rescued. You decide that it’s necessary to create a government for your civilization. What type of government would be suit a situation like this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, this sounds eerily similar to 'Lord of the Flies', so I'm guessing you're studying that right now. I would say a mixed/social government, where everyone contributes what the can for the sake of the community as a whole. You're only twenty people, so you'd want to stick together and not create chaos/separation. Also, if you've studied Native culture, you can see that they had times where they would sit in a circle and allow everyone to speak. Individualism isn't the best thing in this situation, unless you're using it for the good of the group.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I am not studying that right now. I have never heard of that actually. And Mixed/ Social Government? How about a federal system? Because the definition states: A federal system is one in which the power is divided. There is a central government, and there are also state and local governments that rule over individual regions within the country. The different levels of government may share powers over the same things, or they may each have their own set of separate powers, depending on how the government is set up. The current United States government is an example of a federal system.. Isn't this familiar to your answer, Mixed/ Social Government? @ManImStumped

An oligarchy is a type of government that is run by a small group of people. This group's power may stem from wealth, family ties, or a political party that dominates the government. An oligarchy is often an authoritarian type of government, in which the government holds all power and limits the actions and freedoms of the people. (This one seems more accurate. )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, that sounds about right (federal system). It should probably be democratic, where people vote for who represents what. Also, I'm very surprised you haven't read the 'Lord of Flies', since that's exactly what happens and it's famous in schools. It also can't be oligarchy since wealth and power doesn't matter on an island, especially when compared to talent/skill.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you, I had that in mind but wanted to see what someone else would say from their point of view or knowledge about forms and types of governments. And wow, really? I literally have never heard of that. I'm homeschooled, I don't know if that's the reason why... And okay, I got ya. I actually have like 2 more questions dealing with this assignment. Do you mind helping me with them in a new thread?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, it's probably 'cause you're homeschooled. Most people read it in grade 10. And no, i don't mind. Just tag me in it :)
