How do you find the best whole-number ESTIMATE of √NUMBER

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perfect square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if u round it off it is estmating a whole-number

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

so if you are asked to approximate the sqrt of 157 you will find the two perfect squares it is between so in this case 12 and 13(12^2=144 and 13^2=169) now you can just put 12.(something) as an approx., so about 12.5

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well I just approximate \[\sqrt{19}\] between 4^2 = 16 and 5^2 = 25.... closer to 16 so I'd say 4.3 or 4.4 not much science to it.. bet it works...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So... √40 A. 6 <--- B. 7 C. 10 D. 20 6x6=36 7x7=49 10x10=100 20x20=400 36 is the closest to 36 without going over 40...

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

yep... thats the choice...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! :)

OpenStudy (acxbox22):

good job
