CALLING TO ALL MARCHING BAND PEOPLE! I am trying to put together some warm ups and breathing exercises for my band and I would like to know what you have done before and what you liked and didn't like or even something you saw another band do that you thought was cool. Thank you so much I will award a medal!
we do arpeggios with quarter and eighthnotes. we also do the chromatic scale going down in whole notes (so like concert f then to e natural then back to f then to e flat etc. ) it helps with sustaining notes while marching.
OMG MARCHING BAND <3 <3 <3 my band does breathing exercises, like breath in for 4 counts, breath outs for 4 counts breathe in for 8 breathe out for 8 etc we also do longtones, "9 count tones" Bflat, A, G then back up for fun we do Space Chord (which are AWESOME) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvay3hbwX4M it's hot (fans face) that video gets me pumped up for marching band every time <3
My band teacher always made us practice by breathing in from our diaphragm as you are supposed to do and then singing a b flat note drawn out, it helped me personally to sustain my airflow over time and feel ho it is supposed to feel when playing during long periods I bet you could do this while jogging in place, I know it sounds silly but I could see that working. I am a flute player if that matters at all.
