A baker has a bag of flour that is 11% whole wheat and a bag of flour that is 63% whole wheat. How many cups of each type does the baker need to make 12 cups of a flour mixture that is 50% whole wheat?

hero (hero):

Let x = cups of the 11% flour y = cups of the 63% flour Together there will be 12 cups in total: x + y = 12 At the same time, the number of cups of the 11% flour + the number of cups of the 63% flour must combine to make 50% of 12 cups: .11x + .63y = .50(12)

hero (hero):

So what we have is a system of equations x + y = 12 .11x + .63y = .50(12) Solve for x and y
