Can someone walk me through finding the rectangular equation for x=t+(1/t) and y=t-(1/t) please?

there is a bit of art to doing these problems. start by adding the two equations x+y = 2t and \[ t= \frac{x+y}{2}\] substitute this value for t in either equation, expand and simplify
