A lot is in the shape of a trapezoid. The sum of the bases is 180 feet. If the area of the lot is 8,100 square feet, what is the distance across the lot, i.e. the altitude of the figure? The altitude of the trapezoid is? PLEASEE HELP ME UNDERSTAND THIS!!!!!

OpenStudy (shamim):

area of a trapezoid=(1/2)*(sum of two parallel lines)*altitude

OpenStudy (shamim):

so 8100=(1/2)*180*altitude

OpenStudy (shamim):

altitude=?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Let z be the vertical height of the trapezoid, 180 x z = 8100 To solve for z, we remove 180 from the left side To do that we divide both sides by 180 Which leaves us z = 45 P.S I think that's what you mean by altitude
