Question 14. 14. All organisms on earth require energy to live. Which statement best describes how ferns, people, and flatworms obtain energy?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. Ferns and flatworms absorb food from their surroundings, while people must digest food found in their surroundings. B. Ferns produce ATP during photosynthesis, while flatworms and people produce ATP during digestion. C. Producers such as ferns do not require a source of energy, while flatworms and humans must consume food for energy. D. Ferns produce glucose that can be broken down by cellular respiration, while flatworms and people digest foods containing glucose for use in cellular respiration.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's B

Hai Sweet Friend, @faisalalif1999 WelcoMe To OpeN studY !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually, I think it's D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since ferns produce glucose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, it's not A or C, I agree. there is information in B that is correct - but also information in D that is correct. let's find the flaws in one of the answers. why would you choose D over B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would choose D over B since ferns don't automatically make ATP from photsynthesis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they first produce glucose

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then they use that glucose in cellular respiration to create ATP

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Hmm...so is the answer ...Ferns produce ATP during photosynthesis, while flatworms and people produce ATP during digestion. ?

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Hmm, well then ...Congrats for that ! Hope, if U Are Satisfied with this Answer, Please Close This Question ! Thank U !! Keep In Touch, with Open study !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, that's partly correct. plants actually produce ATP during photosynthesis through ATP synthase. the proton gradient gets built up, and ATP is produced. the critical point here is that photosynthesis is not the ONLY way that plants can produce ATP, because they also digest glucose, like we do. it's a little tricky, but this makes B a flase answer. glucose gets produced in plants, and since all plant eaters can't produce glucose from fat, this makes D the right answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
