Hello

OpenStudy (anteater):

So, they show that those two angles add up to 90 degrees (a right angle)

OpenStudy (anteater):

So, what equation can you create using your variable expressions for the angles and the fact that they add up to 90 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i'm not exactly sure

OpenStudy (anteater):

x + (4x - 10) = 90 :)

OpenStudy (anteater):

So you start with that equation, and what would you need to do next to simplify it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it's 20!

OpenStudy (anteater):

Aha - you went ahead and solved it before I did. :) Let me double check!

OpenStudy (anteater):

Yep!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

OpenStudy (anteater):

You are welcome :) So, did you combine like terms (x + 4x = 5x) and then solve the equation, or did you use the substitution method and plug in the values they gave you as choices?

OpenStudy (anteater):

When you have a multiple choice test, sometimes it is actually faster just to plug in the choices and see which one works. But for general homework problems, it's usually better to do the algebra and isolate the variable. I was just curious as to which route you went on it.
