I can help. Basically what you have here is a square with a half of a circle attached to it. So let's work with them one at a time. Around the outside of the 3 sides of the square (you don't count the side that it is sharing with the circle, because that is not outside of the shape, it's inside and not part of the outside measure). 4 cm times 3 sides = 12 cm. that's for the outside of what is showing in the square. Now you have a half circle to deal with. Do you know the circumference for a circle? the formula, that is? \[C = 2\pi r\]So let's find that. C = 2 * 3.14 * 2 (2 is the radius of the circle)So C = 2 * 3.14 * 2 which equals 12.56. But you only need the distance around half of the circle, so it is 6.28. Now add that to your 12 from the square and you get 12 + 6.28 = 18.28. The answer you need is A even though it is not exact. They are looking for approximate.
