Medal+Fanning!! Can someone please help me with PEMDAS?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

ask away

2.Max was solving the equation below and isn’t sure if his answer is correct. Explain to Max how he can check his answer and then help him identify any errors he made. Provide the correct solution in your explanation. 3x+6 8 = 7x−1 6 24 1 ( 3x+6 8 ) = 24 1 ( 7x−1 6 ) 3(3x+6) = 4(7x−1) 9x+18 = 28x−1 9x−9x+18 = 28x−9x−1 18 = 19x−1 18+1 = 19x−1+1 19 = 19x 1 = x

What don't u understandd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WHATTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

im going to read the bottom equation just as a heads up

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hold on, let me rewrite it. :) I don't understand what's wrong.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

well he first dun goofed when he did 4(7x-1) the real answer is supposed to be 28x-4

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Pemdas: P: Parenthesis E: Exponents M: Multiplication (from left to right) D: Division (from left to right) A: Addition: (from left to right) S; Subtraction: (from left to right)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hope that's easier to see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I put this but I got it wrong so I have to redo it. The only mistake Max made was that during this part... 4(7x-1) and he got...28x-1 In reality, he forgot to distribute 4 and just carried the one down.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does anyone know what's wrong?

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

2nd line of the pemdas equation there is a mistake

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Look at the pemdas equation I made ^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the issue is that he did distribute the 4 to the 1 here 4(7x-1)?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

ur suppose to do 4 x 7x and 4 x 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thank you! Is the second line wrong also because I don't see where he put the 8 and 6 in the fraction?

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Just wait let me look

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

IDK

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, thanks guys!

OpenStudy (kendricklamar2014):

Sorry :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I's fine! :)
