It is estimated that the city of Houston, Texas, will double in size every 35 years. If the population is currently 2.4 million people, how many people will there be in 20 years?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

we know that in 35 years FROM NOW, the population will double, so it'll be 2.4 + 2.4 so in 35 years it will steadly increase by 2.4 million folks so how about in 20 years then? how much will be the increase? well \(\large \begin{array}{llll} years&increase \\\hline\\ 35&2.4\\ 20&x \end{array}\implies \cfrac{35}{20}=\cfrac{2.4}{x}\) solve for "x" to find the INCREASE and add it to today's current population, or 2.4
