The products of cracking an alkane X are methane, ethene and propene. The mole fraction of ethene in the products is 0.5. What is the identity of X? 1) C6H14 2) C8H18 3) C9H20 4) C11H24 @ganeshie8 @Kainui

I'm unfamiliar with this, but maybe this article helps: http://www.chemguide.co.uk/organicprops/alkanes/cracking.html I'm reading it now, so maybe I can help.

Which means the mole fraction of propene and methane would be 0.25 each, as the total no of moles of product will equal to 1 so multiple to get a whole number and see if you can determine X
