Which of the following equations have the same solution? Solve all three equations separately, and explain each step. I. 3x + 2 = 5x – 6 II. 2x – 2 = 8 III. the quantity of x plus 1, divided by 5 equals the quantity of 2x minus 2, divided by 6

OpenStudy (ranga):

To solve 3x + 2 = 5x – 6, isolate x. subtract 3x from both sides. add 6 to both sides. solve for x.

so i dont understand how to do number two it says they all have the same solution but i came up with x=5 why?

OpenStudy (ranga):

It does not say they all have the same solution. It is asking you to solve all three equations separately and then asking you which ones have the same solution. x = 5 is correct for problem 2. What did you get for problems 1 and 3?
