x = number of pizza orders. y = number of chicken orders. There is 7 people/orders in total, so x + y = 7 We also know the prize of each order and the total amount of money for the entire order 2.50x + 3.50y = 21.50 Now you have the follow system of equations to solve: \[\large x + y = 7 \\ \large 2.50x + 3.50y = 21.50\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lyrae but how do you fine the answer i have to divide them all by 2.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorrry meant 3.50

OpenStudy (lyrae):

Do you know how to solve systems of equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think i do but this is different than the ones i did and passed

OpenStudy (lyrae):

Normally you'd do it by substitution or by elimination, does one of those sound familiar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No am sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

when it comes up to these question i get very confused

OpenStudy (lyrae):

It's okay :) Everyone's confused in the beginning when learning something new! Here's the solution using substituition: x + y = 7 -> x = 7 - y (break out x/make x alone) 2.50x + 3.50y = 21.50 -> x + 1.4y = 8.6 (divide by 2.50) Substitute x (in x + 1.4y = 8.6) and solve for y 7 - y + 1.4y = 8.6 -> 0.4y = 1.6 -> y = 4 y = number of chicken orders = 4 Substitute y (in x = 7 - y) and solve for y x = 7 - 4 = 3 x = number of pizza orders = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wow thank you the answer is 4 for how many ordered chicken

OpenStudy (lyrae):

Yw :)
