PLEASE HELP?????????? the vertices of a triangle are p(4,7), q(8,-1) and r(-9,6). what are the vertices of the image reflected across the x-axis?

OpenStudy (juicstice):

just imagine it is a mirror image

OpenStudy (juicstice):

so just put the coordinates in the same place but just on the other side of the x-axis

OpenStudy (ranga):

When you reflect across the x-axis, the x-coordinate will remain the same but the y coordinate will become negative y. (A,B) will become (A,-B) when reflected about the x-axis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -4,7, -8,1, and 9,-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait im confused was that right what i just put ^^ ?

OpenStudy (ranga):

No, the previous numbers are not correct.

OpenStudy (ranga):

|dw:1402011789719:dw|

OpenStudy (ranga):

The first number is the x-coordinate. It will remain the same. The second number is the y-coordinate. It will change sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so (4,-7), (8,1), and (-9,6) ??? @ranga

OpenStudy (ranga):

The last one is (-9,-6).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah thats what i meant!! sorry

OpenStudy (ranga):

That is it. When reflecting across x-axis, the x-coordinate will remain the same and the y-coordinate will change sign. When reflecting across y-axis, the y-coordinate will remain the same and the x-coordinate will change sign. When reflecting about the origin, both the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate will change sign.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you a bunch!!

OpenStudy (ranga):

You are welcome.
