Triangle ABC is located at A(-4,5), B (-4, -1), and C(-1,1). A translation of the triangle is located at A’(-1, 7), B’(-1, 1), and C’(2, 3). How is the triangle translated?

hero (hero):

If A = (-4,5) and A' = (-1,7) by how many units is the x coordinate translated?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3,2?

hero (hero):

You posted the translation for both the x and y coordinates, good. So this means that the general translation of Triangle ABC to A'B'C' is (x,y) → (x + 3, y + 2)

hero (hero):

You can verify this by calculating the translation from B to B' and C to C'

hero (hero):

Notice that B = (-4,-1) → (-4 + 3, -1 + 2) = (-1, 1) = B' C = (-1, 1) → (-1 + 3, 1 + 2) = ( 2, 3) = C'
