Notice to ALL users of OpenStudy ***Please enter to read*** created by: @mathslover and @beccaboo333

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Recently many users have been accusing Ambassadors of having moderator tools. We do not have any access to this. It can be very hard for us Ambassadors when we have angry users attacking us for things we are not capable of. We simply are here to help guide any new users as well as current ones. We also help everyone with learning the rules and just learn how to be a good member of our community. We respect that everyone may be angry due to a warning or suspension. But we are NOT the ones to go to for it. If you are ever suspended or warned, please email contact@openstudy.com or abuse@openstudy.com Someone will help you through that. Do not create new accounts to falsely report users who you think got you suspended. Nor should you create a new account to evade a suspension. It will add to your main accounts suspension to a much longer time. If you ever have a question on ways you could end up suspended or warned, by all means contact anyone with the purple A next to their username. They will help you get a good understanding of the rules of this site. That's what we are here for. Thank you for reading and understanding. https://openstudy.com/code-of-conduct https://openstudy.com/terms-and-conditions https://openstudy.com/privacy-policy

mathslover (mathslover):

Yeah, that's true. Recently, many of the users have been asking Ambassadors that why have they banned/suspended them? This point needs to be made clear to all. \(\bullet\) \(\color{blue}{\bf{Ambassadors}}\) don't have ANY powers. They are just normal users who got an A for good and responsive work for OpenStudy. They just welcome new users, introduce them to the site, and behind the scenes, they do several projects. \(\bullet\) Users need to understand the difference between \(\bf{Moderators}\) and \(\bf{Ambassadors}\) : \(\color{purple}{\bf{Moderators}}\) are those who are selected by administrators for maintaing the decorum and discpline on OpenStudy. They suspend/ban the users who violate the OpenStudy Code-of-Conduct or Terms and Conditions. Though, moderators never take any decision on the personal backgrounds, they take these decisions on the basis of the violation done by the user. Hence, there are only 1% chances for them to be wrong. \(\bullet\) In this case, if you think you were suspended without any reason, or you need more investigation regarding this matter, mail to : abuse@Openstudy.com Ambassadors, as I said above, don't have ANY rights to suspend/ban any user. They can report a user, like normal users can do. Many points are mentioned nicely @beccaboo333 . Just wanted to put this up too.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would also like to mention, Please for the love of open study allow someone to make an anti spam, its gets annoying seeing people spam. -Riddles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Comp said he could suspend me... Not sure how what to say to that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

^^ bump that up to the hire staff

mathslover (mathslover):

Riddles, thanks for your suggestion, OpenStudy Administrators and Team are working on this. Stay updated on blog.openstudy.com and http://facebook.com/openstudy OS might have some changes soon.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Math, what is the specs of the server that host os?

mathslover (mathslover):

@jadeybells -> Yeah, he might be joking. So, I think, this thread will clear up everything. No Ambi can suspend anyone.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

He wasn't joking.. Right after he said that, I got suspended...

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Please keep this thread to comments related to the main post. You and compassionate can talk this over through pm. Thanks.

OpenStudy (compassionate):

The only people that have, or have had, the ability to suspend are Administrators, Webmasters, Moderators and certain Global Interns.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm wondering why the owners of the website take their time to fix things?.... Hire me, I'll fix things quick.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Easier said than done" It is not a one-step process , it involves a lot of discussion for something to be implemented , i am sure

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@jadeybells Abb0t, Compassionate, nincompoop, and many, many more have said things along the lines of, "You are going to be suspended for that," and then poof, the person is. The reason why this happens is simple. They are long term users that know when moderators suspend. They largely understand how the moderation system works. If they know a moderator is watching, have reported, or know other people have reported, they can make an educated guess as to what will happen. So what they are doing is making a prediction with high accuracy. Sometimes they take this a step further as a joke. Abb0t is most famous for this. They claim they are suspending you when in truth they just know it is going to happen because someone is being a huge troll.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey open study, Lets create a programming chat for the nerds like me <3

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@Dark_Riddles Um, there is one.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it say "Programming"

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Computer Science.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

Ambassadors do have tools. I've seen it

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Nope. They don't. I'm the Chair for the Ambassador Program. We are pretty clear with them on that they are put in a hard spot. They try to calm situations when they see them, but have no tools other than what they type.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

I heard something about IP Check and Ban?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

IP Check is a mod too. Ban is an Admin tool.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

That's cleared enough...!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Basically mods vote on bans and when enough agree, then the admins usually do so. It has happened a few times in the last year. Which is why we want some better login controlls. Less need for bans then because less trolls.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

You are stored with useful information!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

It is not really a secret. The developers of the past have posted many times about how things work. You can actually google up their posts on a lot of policies.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

Google them by what name?

mathslover (mathslover):

Type this in search bar site:openstudy.com

mathslover (mathslover):

Type anything you wish to search for... for example, if I search for "cshalvey" - the past admin of OpenStudy https://www.google.co.in/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&es_th=1&ie=UTF-8#q=site:openstudy.com+cshalvey

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or you can do http://openstudy.com/users/ "Insert username"

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

Exactly how do you find the names?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Here is a good read: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/4f395b9ae4b0fc0c1a0e16ff

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

So these were all the admins?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Some were, some were or are mods. If you look at the things the older purple people were involved in; especially shadowfiend, farmdawgnation; and cshalvey, you can find lots of things. Or how I did it initially was to search for things like policy, moderation, rules, etc.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The argument over appropriateness of posting some forms of anime was another interesting one. Showed how the admins come down harder on stuff than the moderators. Mods generally suspend for days, perhaps weeks. Admins suspend quicker and longer.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

Wow!

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Yah, things I would tag for a day or three I have seen admins do 3 weeks. Some rule violations, like being a nude pick seeker, I send a warning on first time. Admin: 2 month suspension. No warning. Bang. Seen it happen. And I get the point. They are legally responsible for the site and protecting the minors on it. I'm just helping out.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

But... @abb0t banned me...with his cheese sandwhich o-o

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

That was just the Limburger and liverwurst.

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Ew, I would never eat either of those.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Which is why you threw it at ShadowLegendX.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

;-;

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Smelled worse then it looked...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, so ambassadors don't have some "additional" special buttons? like to check IP addresses, notebook or ban users? .-.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Notebook is a Chrome addon. Nobody has it as an OS thing.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh.. but why do users who are paying Os (or the one who has a diamond SS) has it?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I don't know what comes with subscription at the moment, but as I said, the Notebook is a chrome extension. It has nothing to do with OS.

mathslover (mathslover):

@Data_LG2 Basically, Notebook extension is not an official thing. It was made by @wio And yes Ambassadors don't have any special buttons :( ..! As I said, we're just like normal users (if asked about powers)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh i see. now i understand. thanks

mathslover (mathslover):

You're welcome :-)

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Subscriptions come with a title and a diamond, that/s it.

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

Subscribers to OpenStudy get the following: Choose your own "title" that appears by your username in study groups. A diamond SmartScore indicator that signifies your sponsorship. Surf OpenStudy without external advertisements.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

So why do we have to pay? $10 every month?

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

I haven't seen anyone with that specialty yet

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

By removing advertisements they are losing money as they can't count you as viewing there ads, so you paying for them removes that issue. With the removal of advertisements you can browse this cite without annoying ads. The diamond smartscore is a prize to be shown off and be proud of and being able to choose your title that shows up next to your name is a cool aspect of OpenStudy that allows you to customize your profile better.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

So, Luigi is a subscriber ? so is Nincompoop? they got (......) these beside their names

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

Example Luigi0210 (SuckAtMath) nincompoop (Phantom Lord) and if I pay will my SS rise to 99?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

no, you can't pay to raise your smartscore... I think they are gonna work on better stuff for paying money but that's it for now .-.

OpenStudy (elizabeths):

What does A diamond SmartScore mean than?

OpenStudy (sleepyhead314):

diamonds does show that they subscribe comp, lui, and uncle, gane, and nin are all subscribers

OpenStudy (compassionate):

@e.mccormick was right about Admins. I think the thread was deleted so I can't fetch it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Where is the link so I can fill out an application form

mathslover (mathslover):

@Teehee321 : Find the link for form (of Ambassadors) here : http://blog.openstudy.com/2014/01/30/openstudys-diplomatic-corps/ Good Luck!

Elsa213 (elsa213):

I agree with u. People Have 2 discuss with the mods about their problem.
