as in compound racemose structure should be branched but why in spike of spikelet they are borne on peduncle???
m frustrate totally..:(
its not that tough plezzzz ans
Hmm... Does attachment copy help ?
koikkara m asking y compound spikelets are not branched???
Spikelet: a flowering unit comprised of one or more florets enclosed by two glumes (bracts). When the spikelets are attached directly to the rachis the inflorescence is called a spike (wheat, rye, barley, ryegrass). When the spikelets are attached to the rachis with short pedicels, the inflorescence is termed as raceme. When the spikelets are attached by means of a branch the inflorescence is said to be a panicle.
as branched is the property of compound ans spikelet also lie in that but y it is nor branched???
hmm.. The spikelet is attached to an un-branched axis called the rachilla .
hm but it lie in compound racemose sooo it should follow the property of racemose and should be branched...
Hmm, now i get it, just a min..
ohk
just have a look, by then let me finnsh typing... http://www.fsl.orst.edu/forages/projects/regrowth/print.cfm?PageID=11
The spikelet meristem gives rise to a single floral meristem and a single floret . By comparison, the inflorescence, or spike, of , for example , a barley (Hordeum vulgare) and wheat (Triticum aestivum) is unbranched. In barley, the inflorescence meristem is indeterminate and produces lateral spikelet meristems that form three florets. In wheat, the inflorescence meristem is determinate and produces a limited number of lateral spikelet meristems and a terminal spikelet meristem, with each spikelet meristem producing multiple florets.
ohk got it!!! thanks a lot!!!
Also, In an unbranched inflorescence, known as a spike, axillary meristems produced by the inflorescence meristem develop directly into spikelets. As with wheat and barley, the inflorescence of Brachypodium (Brachypodium distachyon) is a spike ! Hope, if U Are Satisfied with this Answer, Please Close This Question ! Thank U !!
