FDR wanted to accomplish with the New Deal: -Relief to the jobless Around that time 25% of American workers didn't have jobs! So FDR was trying to help these people out. Literally, people were starving to death because that's how poor they were -Economic recovery The nation was in an awful spot economically, so he was trying to get the economy back up, passing acts such as the Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act, was raised tariffs [taxes on foreign goods. So other countries such as England and France would have to pay taxes to sell their products in America, this ended up NOT being successful actually] -Banking and other business reform A LOT of banks were shut down because of people not paying their loans, etc. So a lot of banks had to shut down, meaning a lot of people just lost the money they had in banks. He succeeding in making a minimum wage, maximum work work, and establishing child labor laws. Before, people would work like 15 hour days, 6 days a week, little children as young as like 5 would be working in dangerous factories, and an employer could pay you as little as he wanted. We're talking like 5 cents an hour. [Read the novel The Jungle by Upton Sinclair, its all about that, and SUPER good!]
