3 questions..... 1:A study was designed to determine the relationship between driving speed and gas consumption for new lightweight sports cars. What are the independent and dependent variables for this study? A. The independent variable is the driving speed, and the dependent variable is the weight of the cars. B. The independent variable is the driving speed, and the dependent variable is the gasoline consumption. C. The independent variable is the gasoline consumption, and the dependent variable is the driving speed. D. The independent variable is the weight of the cars, and the dependent variable is the driving speed.

Please one question at a time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um i said 3... but ok.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well the car weight stays the same so I'm guessing that would be the dependent variable.

@Legolas(theGirl)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you. on the first one?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all of the results say indpendent vareible. is it a,b ect.

Miracrown (miracrown):

okay well it says it's between "driving speed" and "gas consumption", so it'd have to be one of the choices with those then do you know which of those would be the independent variable?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c? on 1.

Miracrown (miracrown):

the independent variable is the one that the researchers manually change and the dependent variable is the one that they'd be measuring to see how it reacts so would they be changing/controlling the driving speed, or the fuel efficiency?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For the last one I'd think that the type of curriculum would be the dependent variable because they are all in the college prep class

Miracrown (miracrown):

the researchers are controlling the driving speed they would test the cars at different speeds then see how much gas it consumes at each speed the variable that they're changing (the driving speed) is the independent variable, then the one they're measuring (gas consumption) is the dependent variable.

Miracrown (miracrown):

So therefore its B.

thx so much.

second question A study involving middle-aged adults was designed to determine the relationship between the amount of caffeine consumed during the day and the time required to fall asleep at night. What are the independent and dependent variables for this study? A. The independent variable is the amount of caffeine consumed, and the dependent variable is the time required to fall asleep. B. The independent variable is the amount of caffeine consumed, and the dependent variable is the age of the people. C. The independent variable is the time required to fall asleep, and the dependent variable is the amount of caffeine consumed.. D. The independent variable is the age of the people, and the dependent variable is the time required to fall asleep.
