A pair of dice is rolled. Find the probability P(A|B) if: A: 2 appears on atleast one die. B: Sum of numbers appearing on die is 8.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no matter what i do my answer always come 1/3 which is wrong and these are the choices: 1/12 1/6 1/36 2/5

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

P(A | B) means Find the probability of A, given that event B has already occurred

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

B: Sum of numbers appearing on die is 8.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

list down all the outcomes of `B`

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

can u ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

P(b)=6 and P(a)=12 but P(A & B)= 2 so P(A|B) gotta be 2/6=1/3 which ain't the answer....so i am confused

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

how did u get 6 for b ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

im getting 5 outcomes for b : ``` (2, 6) (3, 5) (4, 4) (5, 3) (6, 2) ```

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i see...so i have not to calculate (4,4) 2 times....coz i thought that they need to be counted separately

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer is 2/5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[P=\frac{ Favourable }{ total }\]
