A. Explain how you know the triangles are similar in this problem B. Show the ratio you would set up to find the distance from the shoreline to the boat C. Solve the ratio and show your work with the solution
for part A simply show all the identigal angles are equal, i guess you can do that?
Yeah, I got that. I'm stuck on part B
for part B, the ratio of similar sides is 162/70, as given clearly, so the distance between shoreline and the boat is 65* 162/70
If it makes it easier for you, see the opposite triangle as a reflection. Flip it around so it looks like this. Then see it again as a reflection. |dw:1402052672420:dw| This helps me when I solve equations. Arnab09 has done a really good job explaining so far.
If they both have 90 degree angles, and you know that when a line bisects the other line it forms 2 pairs of 2 equal angles, so once you get AA, you can say AAA. But not necessarily SSS (in this case for sure not so, )
Got it! Thanks guys! :D
No problem :) May I ask if you are in year 9?
Yes, Im currently in 9th grade :b
Oh cool, me too! (high fives)
