Well, think about it like this, if you compare individuals that live in higher altitudes compared to lower altitudes, there is a difference between their breathing conditions, the lower alititude area has a hard time breathing in higher altitude areas....

Environmental conditons usually lead to a change in phenotype. 
Although genotype can be changed due to mutation, and other conditions, but this is arguable, and takes time to manifest or express.
