Malia is using an online calculator to calculate the outputs f(n) for different inputs n. The ordered pairs below show Malia's inputs and the corresponding outputs displayed by the calculator: (1, 4), (2, 9), (3, 14), (4, 19) Which of the following functions best represents the rule that the calculator uses to display the outputs? f(n) = 5n - 1 f(n) = 5n + 1 f(n) = 4n + 1 f(n) = 4n - 1 I really dont understand this problem please help! thanks :)

@sweetburger

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

alright so you know that F(n) can be substituted for y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

plug in (1,4) into the 1st equation substituting F(n) for y then if the 1st doesnt work try the 2nd equation that is given

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

for it to be the correct equation both sides must be equal at the end of your calculation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooh ok i think i got it

OpenStudy (sweetburger):

alright let me know if you want me to check your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the first equation did not work i am going to try the second one now.

OpenStudy (sweetburger):
