Yeah it's worded badly, but it seems you're correct.
You have to remember positive charges move in the direction of the electric field, where negative charges (electrons) move in the opposite direction of the electric field.
so by saying that electric field is from observer to the sheet we can say that the electron beam we repel to the opposite direction toward the observer? am i getting it right? @iambatman
