check out this picture and see whats changing if u still don't get it then i'll explain ok? :)

OpenStudy (somy):

look at numbers, don't look at elements

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Does it decrease by one :0

OpenStudy (somy):

wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

>:(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Explain then D:

OpenStudy (somy):

okay look, in beta decay the element is just gaining 1 more proton but mass number stays same

OpenStudy (somy):

so what do u think now?

OpenStudy (somy):

as i mention mass is not effected so a. the mass number decreases by one. b. the mass number increases by one. are wrong

OpenStudy (somy):

d. the atomic number remains the same. element GAINS a proton so this one is also wrong :)
