Rachel saves an unknown amount (m) of money the first month. The second month she saves another 87$. This gives us a total of: m + 87 Later she uses all that money to buy a 199$ mp3. This also means that the total amount of money she saved in those two months was 199$, which is equal to m + 87$. Thus the equation should be m + 87 = 199 m = 112$
