During Mdm Fong's eye examination, it is noticed that only the inferior cornea exhibits signs of dryness. Which one of the following is the most likely cause? a) excessive blinking b) incomplete closure of eyelids c) excessive sunlight exposure d) inadequate drainage of tears

OpenStudy (matt101):

Answer is B. Blinking functions to spread tears around the surface of your eye to keep it moist, meaning A makes no sense. Excessive sunlight exposure would be more damaging to the retina, although prolonged exposure to dry heat may dry out the surface of the eye as well - however, this would affect the whole surface, not just the inferior part, and so C is wrong. In adequate drainage of tears would mean tears accumulate on the surface of the eye and so would also keep it moist, making D incorrect as well.
