6 degrees 14' 48" = 6 degrees + 14' + 48"
= 6 degrees + 14/60 degrees + 48/(60*60) degrees
Or doing this manually - the 6 just stays as six degrees there are 60 minutes in 1 degree so 14 minutes equals 14/60 = 0.23333333333333 degrees there are 3,600 seconds per degree so 48 seconds equals 48/3,600 = 0.013333333333333 degrees So we add 6.000 0.23333333333333 0.013333333333333 6.247 degrees
