the question i have is below v

OpenStudy (juicstice):

the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Juicstice

OpenStudy (juicstice):

tan is opposite/adjacent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can u please show me how to do it, im failing my class and i need to hurry up and finish

OpenStudy (juicstice):

so the side OPPOSITE of A is 8 the side ADJACENT to A is 15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but the choices are 8/15 15/8 17/8 8/17

OpenStudy (juicstice):

it is 8/15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much!! can i show you another one?

OpenStudy (juicstice):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (juicstice):

the formula for this is a little complicated, but I can show you

OpenStudy (juicstice):

no it really isn't okay so we know 2 angles 70 and 90 add them together 70+90=160 180-160=20 so now you know all three sides the formula is a/sinA=b/sinB=c/sinC lower case is side upper case is angle

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Juicstice, it's a right triangle. ;-;

OpenStudy (juicstice):

set up the proportion like this x/sin(70)=4/sin(20)

OpenStudy (juicstice):

I know

OpenStudy (juicstice):

did I do something wrong?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the choices are 2.7 11.0 .7 4.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

don't need all that happiness it is a right triangle \[\tan(70)=\frac{x}{4}\iff x=4\tan(70)\] and a calculator

OpenStudy (ipwnbunnies):

Yeah, you just use tangent , again. ^^^

OpenStudy (juicstice):

okay, so I was making it a little more complicated

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay im confused so what do i do with 4tan(70)

OpenStudy (juicstice):

you solve for x

OpenStudy (juicstice):

just plug it into a calculator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 10.98 which rounds to 11.0, thanks to all of you!

OpenStudy (juicstice):

I got 4.88

OpenStudy (juicstice):

which rounds to 4.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have another question tho

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait really? i plugged it into the calculator tho?

OpenStudy (juicstice):

I think you plugged it in wrong

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i plugged 4 then the tan sign then 70?

OpenStudy (juicstice):

so did I, I'l do it agin to make sure thug

OpenStudy (juicstice):

did it look like 4tan(70) that would be how you put it in

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it actually looked like 4xtan(70)

OpenStudy (juicstice):

I still got the same answer even when putting in the x

OpenStudy (triciaal):

70 tan * 4 = 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 10.98 though

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which rounds to 11

OpenStudy (triciaal):

yes then to the nearest tenth

OpenStudy (juicstice):

but that isn't the answer it's 4.9 trust me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but what if i get it wrong

OpenStudy (juicstice):

70tan doesn't work it has to be tan(70)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just checked with googles calculator and i got 4.88 so i guess its is 4.9, thanks for helping me @Juicstice

OpenStudy (juicstice):

okay, I'm going to the next question

OpenStudy (juicstice):

so we are using tan again tan is opposite/adjacent 12/35 so then tan(angle that is missing) =.342 since that doesn't solve for the angle need to make it solve for it angle that is missing= inverse tan(.342)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the choices are 71.1 18.9 29.2 90

OpenStudy (triciaal):

would be 18.9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!!!!!! @triciaal

OpenStudy (juicstice):

It was sin not tan

OpenStudy (juicstice):

I messed up with that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks anyways (: @Juicstice
