Colby and Danielle clean pools for extra money over the summer. Colby's income is determined by f(x) = 3x + 12, where x is the number of hours. Danielle's income is g(x) = 5x + 10. If Colby and Danielle were to combine their efforts, their income would be h(x) = f(x) + g(x). Assume Colby works 4 hours. Create the function h(x), and indicate if Colby will make more money working alone or by teaming with Danielle

Looks like you need to find the average of the two functions

What you have to do is substitute 4 for x in Colby's equation (if he's working alone) and then for Colby and Danielle's equation (if they are working together). In this case f(x) would equal 24 and h(x) would equal 54, but to find Colby's earnings in the partnership, you have to divide by two to get 27. Therefore, Colby would earn $3 more by working with Danielle than by himself.
