Simplify the following expression: (x + 6y) - (3x − 10y).

And I got -3x + 16y

First, get rid of the parentheses. And remember that in getting rid of parentheses when there's a negative sign outside to the left [as is the case in -(3x - 10y) ]
Then upon getting rid of the parentheses, change the sign of all the terms inside... positives become negative, negatives become positive.
