Which table of values shows a function with undefined slope? 1) X- 2,2,2,2,2 Y- 4,3,2,1,0 2) X- 0,1,2,3,4 Y- 2,2,2,2,2 3) X- 0,1,2,3,4 Y- 0,1,2,3,4 4) None of the above

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The table where y is the same for every value of x is undefined slope

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

@jtryon Sure?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Can you write two points of the first function?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Table 2 is a horizontal line

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

A horizontal line has slope zero, not undefined.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Actually none of them have slope undefined

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I used some points to plot three separate graphs

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Look carefully at the first choice. Since all x-coordinates are the same, 2, when you do the denominator of the slope for any two points, \(x_2 - x_1\), you will get zero every time. That will mean division by zero. That means the slope is undefined.

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Choice 1 is a vertical line.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Vertical lines have undefined slope

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the answer is choice 1

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Correct.
