The date will always be a point of discussion. Music in itself is a thing that goes way way back to the beginning of time. But a line of thought is that one period ends in 1954 and a new one begins May 1954 with "Rock around the Clock" by Bill Haley.
Strangely enough it was also the year Elvis Presley came onto the scene, and also -to mention one of my favorites - Buddy Holly.
