Suspension problems?

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

I would like to suggest the creation of a strict suspension list. A list of rules and how consequences to each broken rule. I have witnessed many unfair suspensions and feel the need to address this.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

Suspension are only unfair to the user being suspended. Moderators don't just suspend someone for the heck of it. They have to think hard on how long a punishment could be. A lot of people will deny anything they possibly do to make it seem like moderators are out to get them. I've come across this multiple times. Suspension times possibilities in hours. 24: community ban/ simple spam/ rude behavior 48: increased spam/ continuing rude behavior 72: major spam/ ignoring warnings/ increased rude behavior Anything over a week is most likely due to evading suspensions, or continuing to misuse OpenStudy. If any users have an issue with their suspension or their suspension time, they can contact abuse@openstudy.com or contact@openstudy.com With their explanation and concerns of the suspension.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

The Code of Conduct makes it very clear on what not to do. If only users read it, they'd understand why suspensions happen.

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

I understand this, however I would like to address the suspension of kewlgeek555. I do believe his suspension was needed, however for seven weeks he tried to contact OpenStudy asking how long his suspension would last. He finally received a notice for his suspension lasting 58 weeks. I'm not trying to cause trouble, just trying to understand the reason for such intense suspension. He evaded a suspension, but I've seen that multiple times and none resulted in such strict punishment.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

He has had suspensions before from this, when your record has suspensions of such, it will increase it over time if you ever do this mistake again. Believe me :/ I miss him a lot. It's just how this site works.

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

I understand. Thank you very much. Maybe the introduction of a program or process to lessen suspension time could be made? Just an idea. Kind of like a rehab process.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

We try to remind users of rules as much as possible and try to get them to avoid their mistakes from before, but it never fully works. It's the user them self who needs to be able to learn to not do such again for they could be suspended for much longer than expected.

OpenStudy (seaturtle113):

Thank you for your time. :) and for your service to OpenStudy. I do better understand the suspension reasons and will keep them in mind. Thanks again.

thomaster (thomaster):

There are really no guidelines for suspension times. Only community suspension is fixed at 24 hours. All suspensions issued by moderators are a result of their own interpretation and decision. You can be suspended 24 hours for bad language and another mod will suspend you 2 hours or just 30 minutes for the exact same offense. Permanent ban is only for suspension evading, trolls, fake accounts and stuff, or repeated misbehavior.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

One cannot be suspended for no reason.

thomaster (thomaster):

Sure can... but then it wouldn't be fair ;) And mods who suspend people for no reason will most likely have their moderatorship revoked.

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Yep yep.. Once I thought I was suspended for no reason, until I found out it was my brother spamming the chats and not me

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i sus'ed becca once ... she deserved it tho lol

sammixboo (sammixboo):

Reaaallllyyy?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yeah ... yeah, really.

OpenStudy (beccaboo333):

@amistre64 -.- I will find you and I will jab your eye.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

LOL.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

The admin policy I was told when I became a moderator was simple: Major offenses like nude pics, swearing in chat, cheating on a test, suspend for at least a month. Other than that, try to use warning and changes of topic to calm the situation. Then use your best judgment on suspensions. Also, when a person evades a suspension, we do go back and add time to the original. So a few evasions could add up to a really long suspension.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Oh, and I generally don't go for thr 1 month things, but admins will do long suspensions and long increases for evading.
