Which dating method determines a fossil’s age by comparing it to other fossils? A. absolute dating B. radioactive dating C. fossil record D. relative dating

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Abhisar

OpenStudy (abhisar):

D i guess

OpenStudy (abhisar):

absolute dating and radioactive dating determine the age by processes like carbon dating and there is no comparison required

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (abhisar):

dont say ok...it sounds rude :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well then fine ok

OpenStudy (abhisar):

again ok..... ;( ;(

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Say thank You and appreciate them with a medal. Hmm, i may go with radio active dating, as the most common methods use radiometric (isotopic) dating techniques. These techniques use the known rate of decay of radioactive elements into stable isotopes (atoms of a chemical element) or other elements to determine the age of the rock. With these techniques, fossils are not dated directly; the rock around the fossil is dated, and the fossil’s age is extrapolated from the data. Please close the question too.. !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Koikkara but Radioactive dating is a technique used to date materials such as rocks or carbon, usually based on a comparison between the observed abundance of a naturally occurring radioactive isotope and its decay products, using known decay rates. They dont need to compare two fossils for determinig age

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Ofcourse, in general most goes back for radi-dating. It includes, electron spin resonance and thermo-luminescence as well as uranium-series dating.. i think so..

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yes so the answer should be relative dating because they need to compare two fossils in order to say there age. The fossil which was found beneath the other is considered more ancint

OpenStudy (abhisar):

@Koikkara

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Its asker part to find out..I think so, if OS maintains its rules and regulations!

OpenStudy (abhisar):

well i didn't knew that. Thanks for telling this !

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Have a Nice Day !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Have a Good Night josh ! :D
