So I was doing this and was told that I could do tanL=7/2 but then after that I got like stumped and now i'm confused

We can find the lengths of sides LM and MN easily:

You are correct, to find the measure of angle L, use this equation
 $\tan L = \dfrac{7}{2} $

To continue you simply divide 7 by 2 to get:

$\tan L = 3.5$

Now use the inverse tangent function to find the measure of angle L.

$L = \tan^{-1} 3.5$
